Chocolate Orange Pumpkin Cake

Chocolate and orange is already a match made in HEAVEN! But adding pumpkin makes it deliciously moist, paired with mixed spice, this cake is perfect for autumn.


100g cooking butter
150g light brown sugar
300g cooked pumpkin
2 eggs
100g plain chocolate, melted
zest 1 orange
2 tbsp orange juice
150g self-raising flour
2 tsp mixed spice
2 tbsp cocoa powder
1 tsp bicarb. of soda
200g icing sugar
100g cooking butter
1 tbsp cocoa powder
1 tbsp orange juice


  1. Heat oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4 and grease 2x 9inch cake tins.
  2. Cream butter & sugar, add pumpkin, then beat in eggs, the cooled melted chocolate & orange zest.
  3. Sift the dry ingredients & add alternately with orange juice.
  4. Pour in cake tins and bake in oven for 25mins or until a skewer comes out clean.
  5. Once the cake has cooled, make your frosting by mixing all the ingredients together. Spread between the sponges and on top of the cake, then add a segment of orange for decoration.
